The Tone It Up girls, Katrina Hodgson and Karena Dawn, share their best tips for looking hot after a sweaty gym session.
The gorgeous co-founders of Tone It Up, a lifestyle and fitness mega-brand, started with a popular workout series on YouTube in 2008 and have quickly grown their empire to include workout DVDs, Oakley sunglasses, nutrition programs, and a Bravo TV reality show.
While their online community, which has over 1.8 million visitors a month, is hungry for quick fitness and eating tips, fans have also expressed interest in the bombshells’ beauty and fashion essentials. The demand was so great, Dawn and Hodgson recently posted a blog with their top summer beauty tips, explaining that it was the most requested video of the entire Bikini Series (a series committed to helping users look good for bathing suit season).
The real-life BFFs have been busy appearing in magazines and segments on TV shows like "Extra," but still found time to reveal their secrets for looking good post-workout to Everyday Health. (And if you’ve ever seen how flawless they look after doing planks, upright rows, and lunges, you’ll want to keep reading!)
On staying hydrated: The girls agree that coconut water is their favorite thirst-quencher and skin-saver after a workout. “Replenishing electrolytes after a workout is essential to feeling energized,” explains Hodgson. “And staying hydrated plays a huge role in how gorgeous and soft your skin looks." If you can’t get your hands on the real thing, the next best option would be to add a packet of 40-calorie Perfect Fit Coconut Water Mix to water, suggests Dawn and Hodgson.
Embrace that natural flush: “There's nothing sexier than that natural, post-workout glow,” says Dawn. “All you need is a little bronzing powder, a dab of lip shine, and some mascara.” Their favorite lip color is Laura Mercier Balm in Apricot, while their go-to cheek color is Tarte Cosmetics Bronzer. They add a few coats of Diorshow Black Out Mascara to their fringe to create major post-gym lash envy.
Revive your mane post sweat-session: No time for a shower and fresh blowout after the gym? No problem. “We like working with our natural hair texture, using dry shampoo and sea salt spray to freshen up our locks,” says Hodgson, adding that they discovered Rene Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo a few years ago and have been faithful users ever since.
